15-year-old girl raped for six months by uncle in Okara, then left to die after she becomes pregnant
When her condition did not get any better, Uzma was taken out of the village for another operation, during which she lost her life due to multiple complications.
While the country is still in shock at the rape and murder of the two-and-a-half-year-old Zainab in Charsadda plus the unresolved horrendous motorway gang-rape case, another horrific incident has surfaced recently.
In Okara, a 15-year-old girl was continuously raped by her uncle for six months until she got pregnant. The poor girl, Uzma, had to undergo an abortion, after which her condition only worsened. When her condition did not get any better, Uzma was taken out of the village for another operation, during which she lost her life due to multiple complications.
Reports state that Uzma’s parents separated amid domestic disputes, after which the young girl started living with her maternal aunt and uncle. Despite having a wife, Uzma’s uncle sexually assaulted the minor for six months until he impregnated her.
According to sources, when the accused uncle, Ghulam Anwar, and his wife, Sajida Bibi, came to know about the pregnancy, they decided to opt for an abortion. It should be noted that Uzma was six-months pregnant at the time of the abortion. An abortion at such a late stage worsened the young girl’s condition, and eventually, she succumbed to her wounds.
After Uzma’s death, her father registered a complaint with the police. Upon an initial investigation, the police arrested the accused uncle and moved on to the next phase of the inquiry. An investigation into the matter is still underway; however, sources from the hospital have confirmed that 15-year-old Uzma’s uncle had been raping her over a long period.
A report by the Non-Government Organization (NGO) Sahil revealed:
Violence against children continues in the country. An estimated eight children per day have been abused in the first half of 2020; a total of 2,846 child abuse cases were reported from across the country in 2019.
Recurring news of such shocking incidents has shaken our trust in humanity. Will anyone ever be safe again? The government needs to address this issue on a war footing.
