The attack came to light last Wednesday when it was observed that all the hacked accounts were being used to lure users into sending money into a Bitcoin account.

Since the hack, Twitter has been subject to considerable scrutiny from officials around the world. As the privacy of many notable figures\\’ was compromised, the social media platform is under immense pressure to conduct a complete investigation and put forward answers and solutions as soon as possible.

It is reported that Twitter might be taking US Senator Ron Wyden\\’s suggestion to encrypt its DMs. In a recent statement, Wyden said:

Twitter DMs are still not encrypted, leaving them vulnerable to employees who abuse their internal access to the company\\’s systems, and hackers who gain unauthorized access. If hackers gained access to users\\’ DMs, this breach could have a breathtaking impact for years to come.

In light of recent events, Wyden has pushed CEO Jack Dorsey to protect Twitter DMs by employing end-to-end encryption.
