DigiSkills: World’s First Government-backed Program To Train Freelancers Launched In Pakistan

With overly crowded internet community and having 54 million internet users in the country, CEO of Ignite Yousaf Hussain thinks that freelancing is Pakistan’s best choice to overcome domestic economic problems. He is of the view that since every individual has access to the internet, by teaching them right skills they can turn it into a sustainable stream of income.

Following the vision, DigiSkills Ignite’s Flagship program aimed at training 1 million freelancers in Pakistan has been formally inaugurated by Minister of Telecom & IT Anusha Rehman on the second day of ministership ahead of government’s retirement.

A brainchild of Anusha herself, DigiSkills has the potential to singlehandedly take country’s IT exports to $10 billion in only a few years, she believes. World’s first government-backed program to train freelancers will be providing free training through online courses. Every Pakistani can enrol themselves in the courses free of cost using this URL.

Every individual will have to take two courses. One being compulsory, i.e. ‘’freelancing’’ and other can be selected from the following list:

  1. Graphics design
  2. AutoCAD
  3. Creative Writing
  4. QuickBooks
  5. WordPress
  6. SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
  7. Digital Marketing
  8. E-Commerce Marketing

With DigiSkills, any Pakistani residing inside the country or anywhere in the world can register in the above courses, define their skills to ultimately start offering their services online. The ‘’freelancing’’ course is compulsory for aspiring freelancers as it is focused on teaching basic ethics, do’s and don’t’s of freelancing. Hisham Sarwar, a successful freelancer with over 15 years of experience, who gained recognition as the top freelancer on Guru.com will be teaching the tips and tricks of freelancing in the easiest and most understandable way.

DigiSkills will behave similar to any online educational institute, people will be allowed to enrol themselves, have access to video-based trainings and weekly lessons will be given. With that, quizzes, evaluation and tests are also expected during the course. The program will run for at least 2 and a half years and will expectedly be extended for another term depending upon the outcome.
