’57 cases of rape, 22 cases of honor killing were reported in May’

A total of 57 cases were reported, and again, Punjab reported the highest number of cases (38).

Crimes against women continue to rise, as SSDO reported that kidnapping of women, violence and rape were the most reported cases in May 2022.

According to a research conducted by the Centre for Research, Development and Communication (CRDC) and SSDO, 131 women were kidnapped in May.

Out of 131, 96 were reported from Punjab, only. On the other hand, Sindh reported 23 cases, followed by 11 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 1 from Islamabad. No cases were reported from Balochistan.

The second-most reported crime was rape. A total of 57 cases were reported, and again, Punjab reported the highest number of cases (38). Sindh reported 13 cases, 3 from KP and 2 from Islamabad. Balochistan reported only 1 case of rape.

Punjab reported 15 cases of domestic violence, whereas Sindh reported 6 and both KP and Islamabad reported 1 case each. 22 cases of honor killings were reported in the month of May, out of which 14 were in killed in Punjab.

The executive director of SSDO, Syed Kausar Abbas said that the goal with publishing this data for the public is to bring attention to the matter.

”Just this month, over 300 different cases of this nature occurred. We hop that with increased media attention and reporting, the government, police and judiciary dedicate their attention to speedy processing, resolution and punishment,” he said.

The CRDC and SSDO monitored several media newspapers against nine indicators of violence against children and women. Such data is published on SSDO’s official website every month.
