A 19-member team of students, including artists, professional mountaineers, and porters, have made the Guinness World Record for “highest-altitude DJ set on land” after performing at the summit of Manglik Sar (6,050 meters). Another record — the highest-altitude dance party on land — is pending approval.
The record was achieved by Khan Nosher Ali, DJ Ghasuray, Saad Ata Barcha, Zulqarnain Saleem, Ali Musa, Rameez Ahmed, Mohsin Kamal, Junaid Alam, Noman Asmat, Misyab Khan (all Pakistan) on the 27th of July 2021.
The attempt was organized to raise funds for the local mountaineering academy and to promote adventure sports in Pakistan.
The performance that lasted a good half an hour had many local artists who played traditional Hunzai music, daamal (a set of two mini-percussions), and suranai (a woodwind instrument similar to a shehnai). They also added a rubab, a guitar, and a flute to give it a contemporary touch.
The entire expedition was budgeted at PKR 3 million. Aid came in the form of contributions from the locals, and Habib Bank Limited(HBL) was the main sponsor.
