Meet Abdullah Shafique, The first Pakistani to smash debut hundred at both first-class and T20 levels

Back with a bang!

On Wednesday, 20-year-old Abdullah Shafique smashed a debut hundred in Central Punjab\’s remarkable run chase against Southern Punjab. Since then, people want to know more about him.

We bring you a detailed breakdown of everything you need to know about Abdullah Shafique – credits of ESPNcricinfo.

Abdullah Shafique is neither related to Asad Shafiq nor Shafiq Papa. However, the man has cricket in his blood as his father is Shafiq Ahmed, who played first-class cricket in Pakistan. Along with that, his uncle, Arshad Ali, played international cricket for the UAE.

The 20-year-old cricket player belongs to Sialkot. He trained at the Amir Waseem cricket academy and represented the Sialkot Region at U-16 and U-19 levels.

His Talents

Abdullah Shafique garnered major attention after his T20 debut in the National T20 Cup yesterday. Batting alongside Kamran Akmal, the player twice his age, Abdullah outshone himself in a daunting chase of 201.

Starting his inning with a hat-trick in the first over, he finished the game by smashing four sixes and 11 fours, reaching a 55-ball hundred against a bowling attack by Mohammad Irfan, Umer Khan, and Aamer Yamin.

His Cricketing Experience

In Abdullah\’s case, lightning struck his performance not once, but twice. In his first XI first-class match for a Quaid-e-Azam trophy, also against Southern Punjab, the young cricketer scored 133 in the only innings he batted. He has become the first Pakistani player, and just the second in cricket history, to smash debut hundred at both first-class and T20 levels.

Prominent Cricketers and Pakistanis are Impressed!

While at the crease, Abdullah Shafique received live appreciation from Pakistan\’s most prominent cricketers. Mohammad Hafeez praised his batting technique and process for scoring runs, while the Pakistan test captain, Azhar Ali, remarked:

What a knock!

His Future

The sort of attention Abdullah garnered at the beginning of his cricketing tenure is bound to do his prospects well. People should start expecting to see him at the PSL soon. It should be noted that three years ago, Multan Sultans recruited him before he had even turned 18. Thus, the prodigy didn\’t make an appearance.

Abdullah Shafique is back with a bang now. Stay tuned for the next season\’s draft to witness him in action.
