WATCH: Ali Zafar speaks up about the PSL anthem controversy
He shares his views on the original anthem.
One of Pakistan’s most recognizable entertainers, singers and film stars Ali Zafar, has earned a lot of love in the country and around the globe. Ali is best known for his humble and friendly behavior, which is why the entertainment industry loves him.
The 40-year-old singer has done several songs and films for both Lollywood and Bollywood. Ali has a massive fan following of 4.2M on Instagram.
Ali Zafar had also been the voice of The Pakistan Super League (PSL) for three consecutive years, giving one hit after another. Dil Se Jaan Laga De, Ab Khel Kay Dikha, and Seeti Bajay Gi are iconic PSL anthems that have been widely loved by the nation.
However, to everyone’s surprise, Ali Zafar was replaced by Fawad Khan in the fourth season of PSL. Later, Asim Azhar, Arif Lohar, and Ali Azmat made a joint effort with Xulfi for the anthem in the fifth season. The new anthems left the audience utterly disappointed, and netizens took to different social media platforms to voice their opinion.
In a recent live video chat with Shoaib Malik, Ali Zafar opened up about why he did not do the anthems for PSL season 4 and 5.
“I hadn’t wanted to do the 2nd and 3rd PSL anthem, but I did, and they became huge hits after the first one.
However, for the 4th and 5th season, the PCB seems to have their reasons and preferences for other singers, and I respect that.” Ali shared.
Although Ali Zafar couldn’t do a song for PSL in the past two seasons, yet a huge number of requests from his fans convinced him to release an independent song for PSL in season 5. Mela Loot Liya now has crossed 8 million-plus views on YouTube.
