With more than 95 million followers, Charli D’Amelio is the top content creator on TikTok. However, that number has been falling after a video scandal.
The 16-year-old Tiktoker has lost more than one million followers since she posted a YouTube video earlier this week, in which she complained about not having 100 million followers. At the time, Charli had 95 million followers and was inching towards the milestone figure.
In the video, she is seen having dinner with her parents, sister Dixie and makeup artist James Charles.
In an exchange between D’Amelio and Charles, she complained that she would not hit her target of going from one million to 100 million followers within a year.
“Ugh. I wish I had more time,” the social media star said, to which James responded, “Was the 95 million not enough for you?”
In the same video, she and her sister Dixie were seen being rude to a private chef.
During the video, Dixie, who has 43.8 million TikTok followers, choked on a snail and vomited, while her father asked her to stop being dramatic.
The sister’s demanding behavior prompted a wave of backlash, as they were called “impolite” and “selfish” by their fans.
Later, Charli posted a teary message on Instagram Live on Thursday (19th of November) in which she termed all this as a “misunderstanding.”
Wiping away tears, the Tiktoker said she had received death threats and hateful messages, adding, “People are simply ignoring the fact that I am still a human being.”
She added, “Besides, if this is the community I am in or that I put myself in, I don’t know if I want to do this anymore.”
However, even as millions of her fans unfollowed Charlie, she is in no danger of losing her crown – the second-most popular TikTok personality, Addison Rae, has 69.1 million followers.
