Apex Court Orders Scrutiny Of PIA Employees’ Educational Degrees
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been ordered to scrutinize the degrees of its employees by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Furthermore, the top court also ordered to present the report after the verification process is completed.
During the recent hearing of the case, some shocking revelations were made. The court was told that Al-Khair University, Azad Kashmir had awarded degrees to PIA employees without even attending a single class. Moreover, PIA employees with fake degrees had also received departmental promotions on the basis of such degrees.
The PIA administration was directed to carry out the degree verification process of its employees from the recognised institutions. The apex court also summoned Attorney General, PIA managing director and chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on the next hearing.
Last year, the then Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, had taken a suo motu notice of the case pertaining to the possession of fake degrees by the PIA employees.
As of now, as many as 467 staff members of the national flag-carrier have been suspended including 16 pilots.
