WATCH: Arab football club welcomes an Israeli player for the first time

DIAA is joining Al-Nasr on a two-year contract and a transfer fee of $2.9million.

Al-Nasr, a popular United Arab Emirates (UAE) football club, has announced the signing of DIAA Mohammad Saba, making him the first Israeli footballer to sign for an Arab club. He was previously part of the Guangzhou R&F, a Chinese football club.

DIAA is joining Al-Nasr on a two-year contract and a transfer fee of $2.9million.

Recently, UAE has established and normalized ties with Israel following the model laid down by Jordon and Egypt, becoming the third Arab country to do so.

The Israel-United Arab Emirates normalization agreement was signed by both the countries, afterward which, an improvement of bilateral relations has been witnessed at every level.

A new era?

Al-Nasr signing has opened the pathway for several Israeli descent players to the prospect of playing for Arab clubs either in the UAE or vice versa.

DIAA Saba is a Palestinian Arab Muslim, who hails from the Israeli-occupied territory. He has featured for several big clubs and has often represented the Israeli national football team since 2018.

His move to Al-Nasr came after him enjoying the best season in his former club. He made 36 appearances and scored 18 goals in the Chinese Super League last season.
