Army Responds To Reports Of Taking Action Against Officers Following Maryam Nawaz’s Presser

army takes action against five officers

Pakistan Army has responded to reports of taking action against five retired army officers following Maryam Nawaz‘s press conference.

According to reports, the post-retirement benefits including pension and free medical cover of five ex-servicemen, including an ex major general, have been withdrawn.

Action against them was taken last month after they involved in anti-army campaign. All of them was given the chance to defend themselves.

Sources denied the reports of the number of army officers facing such an action being 150. “The social media reports of 150 ex-servicemen facing the action are totally incorrect,” the source told The News. The source added that the five army officers retired from the rank of major to major general. The Pakistan Army found them guilty of campaigning against the institution.

The sources also clarified the rumours spread by YouTubers regarding the link between army’s action and Maryam Nawaz’s statement. It stated that the GHQ took the decision two weeks before the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML N) leader’s press conference. “No connection whatsoever,” a source said.

They also expressed their disappointment over no action from the government against those media men and YouTubers who are involved in maligning the institution regularly. “It is really damaging and dangerous for everyone,” the source added.
