SHC sends Arzoo Fatima to shelter home.

The Sindh High Court has ordered to shift a Christian girl, Arzoo Fatima, who reportedly converted to Islam and contracted a free-will marriage, to a shelter home.

Speaking to The Independent Urdu, Arzoo Fatima’s father, Raja Masih, said, “We were present in the court during the hearing. Since the court proceedings were conducted in English, I don’t know if my daughter will come back to us or not.”

The court asked Arzoo whether she wants to go with her parents, but the 13-year-old replied that she wanted to go with her husband. Upon this, the court ordered to send the girl to the shelter home.

Arzoo Fatima was abducted from her home in Karachi on the 13th of October by unknown assailants while her parents and brother were at work.

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell, acting on a court order, rescued the girl.

Meanwhile, Arzoo Fatima’s case was heard in the Sindh High Court before a two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha on Monday.

During the hearing, the Prosecutor General said that this was not a kidnapping case but an underage marriage case.

In the case challan, the police said that Arzoo Fatima has stated that she has been friends with Azhar Ali for a long time. She reached the lawyer’s office with Azhar where the marriage took place. According to the Nikah Kha, the girl submitted documents stating that she was 18 years old.

The Police said in the challan that section A-264 of kidnapping has now been removed from the case, and action is being taken against the accused under the Child Marriage Act.

The court directed to arrange education and other facilities for Arzoo Fatima. It said that the Home Department should also arrange counseling for her, and a representative from the department should meet the 13-year-old for one hour daily.
