Asia Cup 2022 schedule: New dates for the tournament proposed
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board has decided to change the dates of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. The 18th Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from August 27 to September 11.
However, due to the recent economic instability in Sri Lanka, the cricket board is considering an early start of the tournament. They have also contacted the participating teams for their consent regarding the change in schedule.
The Asia Cricket Council is mulling over different options due to the situation in the host country. One of the options is starting the tournament a few days early than the earlier announced schedule.
New Date:
If the participating countries agree, which is very likely, the Asia Cup 2022 will start from August 24 and continue till September 7, 2022. The teams which will participate in the tournament include Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, host city Sri Lanka and one of the qualifiers.
According to sources, a couple of participating countries including Pakistan requested adjustments in the dates due to possible clash of international fixtures. The Men in Green will host England for seven T20 Internationals in the latter part of September.
The last edition of the Asia Cup was held in 2018 and India won it. The next tournament was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 but it couldn’t happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pakistan will be hosting the 19th Asia Cup in 2023.
