WATCH: Did Asim Azhar copy music for “Jo Tu Na Mila” from a Japanese movie?
A social media user called out Asim Azhar for blatantly copying the music of a Japanese movie “A Town With An Ocean View”.
Pakistani singer Asim Azhar is one of the most loved and prominent singers right now. In the recent past, Asim has given many hit songs like Tera Woh Pyar, Jo Tu Na Mila, and Ghalat Fehmi.
Asim’s most popular song, ‘Jo Tu Na Mila,’ has done wonders and has reached the milestone of 100 million views. He is one of those very few singers who have achieved these figures. Also, his latest song ‘Tum Tum’ has taken the internet by storm. The song was released a few days ago and within minutes, it was trending on YouTube.
However, recently a social media user called out Asim Azhar for blatantly copying the music of a Japanese movie “A Town With An Ocean View” for his most famous track ‘Jo Tu Na Mila.’ The music was originally produced by Studio Ghibli’s Kiki Delivery Service.
Here’s Asim Azhar’s song “Jo Tu Na Mila.”
And here’s the Studio Ghibli version of the same music
However, it is pertinent to mention here that a Pakistani label did not release the song. Instead, as specified under his Youtube video, the music is licensed by UMG (on behalf of Universal Music India Pvt Ltd.).
Thus, surely, UMG sought all legal attempts to acquire rights for the sample used from studio Ghibli. One thing, however, is for sure. That both Asim’s song and the music from the movie have a lot in common. Ever since the song was produced in 1989, and Asim is a contemporary artist, a remake using the music is also nothing very alarming.
