‘Even if my party supports Aurat March, I cannot do it because I am a Muslim’, says PPP leader in a video message

Other PPP workers, however, said that he has a history of making threatening remarks directed at women.

Even after the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership openly expressed its support for Aurat March, a member of the party has announced to oppose it because he believes it to be anti-Islamic. Speaking in a video message on his Facebook page, PPP leader Naeem Baloch said that men who are supporting the march have lost their ‘ghairat’.

He said that despite his party’s stance, he opposes the activity and every ‘Muslim should try to stop it’. Speaking to the Express Tribune, Karachi-based leader said that he is a Muslim first and party member later.

“I am first a Muslim, then a Baloch. I know my leadership supports the march, but as a Muslim, I cannot support events that have slogans like mera jism, meri marzi (my body, my choice),” he said.

Other PPP workers, however, said that he has a history of making threatening remarks directed at women.

“He threatens women who participate in such events,” claimed Sughra Bibi, a PPP worker.

Bibi added that despite this, the women would continue to resist and take part in such activities. She said that ”people like him want to confine us to our homes, but we will resist and demand our rights.”
