‘Backstabber’ Shahid Afridi is no more our friend: Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh
After Afridi’s recent remarks, Harbhajan and Yuvraj believe that he back-stabbed them.
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh called Shahid Afridi ‘unworthy of his friendship’ while Yuvraj Singh said he regretted his contribution to his charity program. The reason for such harsh comments from both former India players is Afridi’s pro-Kashmir stance.
Last month, Shahid Afridi’s Foundation raised funds for the underprivileged who are worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Harbhajan & Yuvraj extended their support to Afridi and posted videos in support of the cause.
However, things changed after a video of Afridi went viral on social media. In the clip, he could be seen bashing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for overruling Article 370 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
“Modi deployed 7 lakh soldiers in Kashmir, same as the total strength of Pakistani forces”, said Afridi.
“I am in your beautiful village, I am very delighted. I was planning to visit you all for a long time. Such a big disease currently infects the world. But the bigger disease is in Modi’s mind.”.
After Afridi’s recent remarks, Harbhajan believes that Afridi has backstabbed them.
“Shahid Afridi is no longer my friend because he ridiculed my country and our prime minister,” said Harbhajan while talking to Sports Tak.
“I and Yuvraj supported Shahid Afridi’s work and his foundation purely on the basis of humanity, and instead of being thankful, he backstabbed us. I will never support him again. I promise everyone that you will never see a video or post for Shahid Afridi in the future.”
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj also ensured his share of voice against Afridi’s comments and tweeted:
“Really disappointed by Shahid Afridi‘s comments on our Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again,” Yuvraj tweeted.
