Due to ‘bad experience’, NHS decides to not appoint Focal Person on Polio
PM's aide to lead the polio drive.
Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) has disapproved of the appointment of Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio and will let health ministry supervise the efforts.
“We did not have a good experience in the past so it has been decided that the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza will himself lead the polio program. The health ministry can work on the polio program more professionally, so there is no need to have a premier’s focal person on polio,” – a senior official of the ministry said while talking to Dawn.
Last week Babar bin Atta, the former focal person on polio eradication said that he had resigned from the office but will still make efforts to help in completely eradicating the virus.
Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Babar bin Atta previously resigned from the position stating ‘personal reasons’. He said that he had requested the Prime Minister of Pakistan to relieve him of his duties because of some family issues.
After a stint of over a year as the Prime Ministers Focal Person for Polio, I have asked the PM to relieve me of my duties because of some personal reasons pertaining to my family. During this time I got a chance to work with the best minds in the world 1/4

However, Babar said that he is proud of the fact that he made all possible efforts to tackle polio. But the reports have been contrary to that. He has been reportedly removed because PM was unhappy with his performance.
