BAIC might finally be bringing four of its vehicles to Pakistan. Here’s what we know so far

The automakers had plans to officially enter the Pakistani auto market last year.

BAIC participated in the 2020 PAPS auto show.

After participating in the February 2020 PAPS Autoshow, the automakers BAIC became Pakistan’s most anticipated and sought after car manufacturers.

Who is the BAIC?

BAIC is one of the largest Chinese automakers located in Beijing, China. Its principal subsidiaries include the passenger car maker BAIC Motor, a military vehicle and SUV maker, BAW, truck, bus, and agricultural equipment maker, Foton Motor.

BAIC enters into a partnership with SEWL.

Tragedy Struck BAIC

The automakers had plans to officially enter the Pakistani auto market last year. According to reports, the company had entered into a partnership with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SEWL) to make its official entrance in the country.

However, as Covid-19 hit Pakistan, plans changed because the business activities had to be put on hold initially. Following the pandemic, the BAIC fell utterly silent for a few months.

BAIC vehicles are finally coming to Pakistan.

BAIC to Break its Silence

Now, media reports are claiming:

The automaker BAIC plans to make its cars available for sale within the next three months.

According to media reports, the following BAIC cars will be launched in Pakistan:

The D20 hatchback and the D20 Sedan

The X25 crossover SUV

The BJ40 off-road SUV

It should be noted that the auto company BAIC put the same four vehicles on display back in the 2020 PAPS Auto show.

Sources state:

The automaker is setting up a vehicle assembly facility in Pakistan, which is reportedly set to complete in a few days. Production of BAIC’s vehicles will begin soon after the completion of the plant.

Reports further state that the SEWL will negotiate terms with the BAIC to cater to the rising demand for Electric Vehicles (EV) in Pakistan (owing to the launch of the new EV policy). SEWL might convince BAIC to bring its EVs to Pakistan and capture the market, just like it has captured the EV market of China.
