In a remarkable development, an 82-year-old Bangladeshi man has been reunited with his nearly 100-year-old mother after a separation gap of more than 70 years, thanks to social media.

“This is the happiest day of my life,” the man meeting his mother remarked.

Storytime

Born in 1939, Abdul Kuddus Munsi was sent to live with his uncle by the time he was ten.

However, Abdul Kuddus ran away and lost complete contact with his family. He was later adopted by two sisters.

Nevertheless, Abdul Kuddus had a yearning in his heart to meet his family and searched for them for decades, but all in vain.

In April this year, however, a businessperson uploaded a video of Abdul Kuddus on Facebook where he was seen appealing to the public to help find his parents.

All Abdul Kuddus could remember was the name of his parents and his childhood village.

A distant relative spotted the video and contacted Abdul Kuddus to inform him that his mother, Mongola Nessa, believed to be in her late 90s, was still alive.

So, Abdul Kuddus —himself a father to eight grown-up children— traveled around 350 kilometers from the city of Rajshahi to meet his beloved mother after a separation that lasted decades.

Over the weekend, Abdul Kuddus finally reunited with his mother, who identified him with a tear-mark on his hand.

Due to her old age, Abdul Kuddus’ mother could not speak properly. However, she was constantly crying from the moment she saw her son and held his hands for a long time.

Abdul Kuddus consoled his mother, saying she did not need to worry about anything as her “son is back.”

According to Abdul Kuddus’s nephew, Shafiqul Islam, the mother and son held their hands for a long time and constantly cried.

Hundreds of villagers also came to witness the remarkable scene. They all left with tears in their eyes.
