Billion Tree Tsunami project is now being considered as a success story, says Minister for Climate Change
- The operation would soon be launched against manufacturers of substandard cosmetic products, says State Minister for Climate Change.
- She urged the youth to step up efforts to secure the environment for healthy living and also called them to unite against the pollution.
As the growing call for awareness on climate change, millions of people from across the world participated in protests. Participants from more than 110 countries poured into streets to stage protests for climate change. The crowds also chanted slogans in support of climate safety and displayed anger for governments’ inaction to preserve the environment.
In the backdrop of a global call to fight the government’s inaction on the increased sensitivity of the climate, Pakistan’s Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir has stated that her ministry was going to request the premier to declare a climate emergency across the country. She also said that the operation would soon be launched against manufacturers of substandard cosmetic products.
Ms. Zartaj Gul urged the youth to step up efforts to secure the environment for healthy living and also called them to unite against the pollution.
She said that youths’ attitudes matter for bringing any change in perception, adding that different surveys reported that 60 percent of Pakistanis know nothing about climate change. However, the way our youth responded to the global call for the climate emergency they prove all such claims wrong, she uttered.
She gave these statements a day earlier while addressing a seminar that held in connection with Global Climate Strike at FAST-National University of Computer & Emergency Sciences, reported by Dawn. The seminar was arranged by the FAST-NU Islamabad campus in collaboration with capital city administration under the auspices of Global Climate Strike.
Acknowledging the government’s commitment the minister said: “Our billion tree tsunami project,” was heavily criticized but now it is being considered as a success story of the century.
The climate change has jolted the dynamics of temperature across the globe and these changes are mostly caused by anthropogenic activities. Following the increased level of emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapors deforestation is considered the second leading cause of global warming.
