India excludes Muslims from new ‘refugees’ citizenship bill
- The government won’t allow “even a single infiltrator” to stay in India, says Amit Shah.
- Mr.Shah also reiterated that NRC exercise would be implemented countrywide.
- Speaking about the provision of citizenship to the refugees he mentioned several religious minority groups besides Muslims.
India to adopt a new law in support of the countrywide drive to identify the foreigners illegally residing over there. The National Register of Citizenship that sparked citizenship hassle in the state of Assam was an exercise of a similar nature. In Assam, around 2 million people were declared as foreigners.
Among those who were declared foreigners the substantial number of people are known to be Hindus. BJP Government seems to be more concerned with identity verification of citizens in Assam than real issues like law and order, and unemployment.
Successfully withdrawing the public attention from the economy and other prevailing issues of genuine concerns the incumbent leadership vows to bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill that will provide Indian citizenship to the refugees including Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, and Christian.
“I assure all refugees – Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, and Christian – that the government of India would not ask any one of them to leave the country,” said Home Minister Amit Shah amid protests from different segments of society against the NRC.
Amit Shah gave these comments in a seminar that was organized this Tuesday on NRC in Kolkata, Times of India reported. Mr.Shah also reiterated that NRC exercise would be implemented countrywide, adding that his government would ensure not a single (non-Muslim) refugee is driven out by first passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill that grants nationality.
The BJP’s minister also spoke in favor of Indian premier Narendra Modi for scrapping the special constitutional status of Kashmir by abrogating the Article 370 naming the move as a complete integration of the state into India. The NRC is now likely to be extended in West Bengal but prior to this a Citizenship Amendment bill would be passed, the report from TOI added.
Speaking about the provision of citizenship to the refugees Amit Shah mentioned several religious minority groups besides Muslims. The government won’t allow “even a single infiltrator” to stay in India, said the minister vowing to deport every single foreigner living illegally within Inda.
