You can block all YouTube ads and stream in peace with this simple trick!
It is only a matter of time before Google patches this issue.
Blocking ads on YouTube is not a dream anymore. Thank the Redditor on the /r/webdev sub, who turned this dream into reality by introducing us to a neat trick.
There is no need to download any blocking extensions. Just add a period (i.e., a ‘.’) after ‘.com’ in the URL. For example:
That is all that needs to be done to block all ads while streaming your favorite YouTube videos.
How does this happen?
The insertion of a period right after ‘.com’ changes the URL by breaking the page. This break messes with the hostname and disables the site from matching to the original hostname.
Therefore, the page is unable to load several parts of the site, which includes the removal of advertisements and cookies and bypassing the paywalls. One additional period also removes almost all advertisements and video ads that continuously interrupt your streaming session.
Whether it be laptops or mobile phones, the simple trick can work on both devices. However, it does not apply to the YouTube app on iOS or Android.
Even so, we should not forget that these advertisements are the primary earning source of many YouTubers. Using this trick means you will not watch the ads, so indirectly you are ridding the YouTubers of the pay they deserve for all their effort.
Nonetheless, it is only a matter of time before Google patches this issue.
