In a refreshing initiative, BRT Peshawar reserves seats for transgender persons
The spokesman of the BRT service said that the transgender community was an important part of our society.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has recently made changes in order to provide equal rights for our transgender community, who are an integral part of our society. Priority seats on public vehicles have been allotted to them by the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Service.
The government has been taking initiatives to help assist the community properly, said Kamran Bangash, Spokesman to the KPK government. He listed several agendas, such as a driving license, the Sehat Insaf card, and proposed a 2 percent quota in government jobs for the welfare of the transgender community in KPK.
Through this, he remarked that the government has been able to reserve seats for them in the BRT, like women, senior citizens, and disabled individuals so that they may board the service bus without inconvenience.
The spokesman of the BRT service said that the transgender community was an important part of our society and asked commuters to respect them and avoid sitting on seats reserved for them۔
Meanwhile, Farzana Jan, President of the Trans Action Alliance and member Chief Minister’s Special Committee on the Rights of Transgender Persons lauded the initiative and said the transgender community would be given a great sense of respect.
