Cage Fish Farming Program Launched With The Aim To Increase Fish Production

The Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf led federal government under Prime Minister’s Agriculture Emergency Program has launched Cage Fish Farming program. The project was inaugured by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, and Advisor to PM on Agriculture, Jahangir Khan Tareen.

The newly launched program has been aimed at increasing fish production in the country. As per details, the Fish Farming Program will increase the total fish production in the country by 5 folds using canal and rivers.

Furthermore, a single 400 square feet cell of fish farm has five times greater ability of production than a conventional farm of 1 acre.

The program will cost a total of 1.5 billion rupees. The advisor to Prime Minister on Agriculture, Jahangir Tareen criticized the past governments for paying lesser attention to the fisheries sector. He further added that the previous number of just hundred cages across the country has been increased to five thousand. Jahangir Tareen went on to add that the government will work with the private sector to make this project a huge success.

Agriculture Emergency Program

The Prime Minister Agriculture Emergency Program was launched in July this year. A total of Rs309.7b will be spent as part of this program to uplift the agricultural economy. The government intends to launch 16 agricultural projects under this program which will help in resolving the agriculture related issues being faced by the country. The government will be working with provincial governments during this program.
