Canadian Government has announced an extension of deadline for visit visa holders, having job opportunities to apply for a work permit without leaving the country.

People who have held a work permit in the past 12 months and are applying under this policy can make a request to start working for their employer soon. The policy was set to expire on 28th February, 2022. However, it would now continue till 28th February, 2025. The extension would also allow Canadian firms to address the concern of their staff shortage.

Before this policy was made, the visit visa holders had to leave Canada to get a work permit after they got a job offer.

There is a specific criteria that has been set for the applicant to be considered ‘eligible’ for this scheme.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme 

  • Have a visitor status in Canada when applying (must be valid)
  • Must have received a job offer that is approved by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment
  • Submission of an application for employer-specific work permit on or before the deadline
  • Fulfill all the other mentioned requirements
