Car sales in Pakistan surge by 55% in February

Car sales grow 18pc to 13,882 in SeptemberThe sale of passenger cars, including KIA vehicles, surged 55% year-on-year (YoY) in February 2021.

According to data disclosed by the PAMA (Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association), PSMC (Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd.) once again took the lead with a massive 66% YoY increase in sales.

PAMA attributed this growth to a 162% increase in Alto and a 106% surge in Ravi sales, with Alto sales clocking in at 4,245 and Ravi at 1,268.

Among other industry leaders, Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan Ltd. (HCAR) registered a 13% YoY surge in sales, whereas Indus Motor Company (INDU) reported a 3% YoY drop.

New entrants into the South Asian country’s auto space, Hyundai Nishat and Lucky Motor (KIA) sold 651 units and 2,500 units in February 2021, respectively.

Meanwhile, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales of passenger cars declined 6% in February 2021 as compared to January 2021.

“The decline came on the back of a decrease in INDU sales (-20% MoM), which was mainly due to seasonally high January sales and some supply-side disruptions,” PAMA stated.

Moreover, tractor sales increased 42% YoY in Feb 2021 but were down 15% MoM.

Millat Tractors (MTL) recorded a growth of 49% YoY (-22% MoM), while Al-Ghazi Tractors (AGTL) sales increased 30% YoY (+7% MoM), respectively.
