Chairman BOI: Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) potentially to become Pakistan’s Economic Hub

He highlighted that the SEZ's aggressive marketing to local and foreign investors is crucial for its speedy occupation and operationalization.

Rashakai SEZ under to promote development of KP under CPEC - China Pakistan Economic CorridorChina and Pakistan negotiated in detail on the development progress and marketing plans for Rashakai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and other mutual interest matters on Friday.

The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Vice President, Sun Yaoguo, and his delegation called on the Chairman Board of Investment (BOI), Atif Bokhari, at the BOI office.


Both sides discussed the interest of Chinese enterprises in Rashakai.

In the meeting, Sun Yaoguo informed that the development work of Rashakai SEZ is being carried out swiftly, and to that end, respective teams have already been mobilized.

He highlighted that the SEZ’s aggressive marketing to local and foreign investors is crucial for its speedy occupation and operationalization.

Sun further said that with the standard of services combined with the Pakistani government’s attractive incentives, Rashakai could become an economic activity hub.

Moreover, Rashakai SEZ is the flagship project of CPEC, and its success will further strengthen industrial cooperation between Pakistan and China.


Meanwhile, while welcoming the delegation, Bokhari praised CRBC’s “impressive work” in the Rashakai SEZ.

He concurred with Sun for the perusal of an aggressive marketing campaign that effectively highlights the monetary benefits for investors.

Bokhari also appraised the delegation regarding the approval of two major incentives for SEZs, i.e., custom and duty exemption on capital goods and elimination of 1.5% turnover tax.

He praised the work being carried out by the CRBC in Pakistan and assured the delegation that the BOI would support the CRBC in coordinating with relevant departments and ministries and offering assistance within the BOI’s mandate.

The BOI looks forward to working with the CRBC to facilitate their progress in Pakistan and jointly work towards Pakistan’s fast-paced industrialization.

He also shared that domestic companies have shown a keen interest in establishing enterprises in the Rashakai SEZ and desired that this should be considered.
