China to import 300 tonnes of chili from Pakistan next month

The pilot chili field in Lahore, from where the chilis would be exported, was established under the Pakistan China Condiments Industry Alliance (PCCIA).

This is the first time Pakistani chili would enter the Chinese market since 2020.

This was revealed by the General Manager of the CMEC’s (China Machinery Engineering Corporation) Pakistan Subsidiary, Wu Guang, on Wednesday.

The pilot chili field in Lahore, from where the chilis would be exported, was established under the Pakistan China Condiments Industry Alliance (PCCIA).

100 acres of Chilli project under Pak-China alliance completed

The chili contract farming project was launched with the joint efforts of the Embassy of China in Pakistan, the Ministry of National Food Security & Research, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, the China-Pakistan Agricultural Cooperation & Exchange Centre, and the agriculture-related companies from both countries.

In June, a pilot Chilli farm in Lahore began yielding around three times Pakistani varieties.

This pilot Chilli farm was established under the cooperation between Pakistani farmers and their Chinese partners – China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) and Sichuan Litong Food Group.

The Chairperson of the Sichuan Litong Food Group, Chen Changwei, said that the pilot chili farm project completed 100 acres of plantation in the first half of 2021 in Lahore.

For the 100-acre-pilot-project, the quantities of seeds are 380 grams/acre, with a yield reaching 3 tonnes/acre. The total production is expected to reach 300 tonnes.

Since 2019, the Sichuan Litong Food Group has brought a total of 13 varieties of Chinese chilies to Pakistan.

Out of these, two varieties, namely, PJH-302 and PJH-407, have been certified for cultivation in Pakistan.

Moreover, advanced Chinese irrigation systems have also been introduced into the chili fields.
