A new hospital ward entirely run by robots has opened in Wuhan, China, to protect medics from catching the deadly coronavirus.
On March 7th, about 200 patients showing early symptoms of the virus were ushered into the new ward, which is in a transformed sports centre in Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus outbreak started.
The robots deliver food, drinks and drugs to the patients, and keep the ward clean. They are also capable of using navigation technology to move around and avoid barriers.
The project at Wuchang hospital resulted from an alliance between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Hubei officials.
Twelve kits of the androids were provided by the artificial intelligence Tech Company, CloudMinds, for the implementation of the project.
Pictures showed one robot showing off its human-like movements by leading the hospital staff in a dance routine.
The ward patients could also be seen taking pictures with the robots.
