‘The COVID-19 pandemic is a nightmare scenario’, Bill Gates suggests measures to flatten the curve
Bill Gates warned five years ago that the greatest threat to the world is a pandemic.
Co-founder of Microsoft and philanthropist Bill Gates says that the current COVID-19 crisis is a ‘nightmare scenario’. However, he believes social distancing and strong national response can help keep casualties lower than numbers projected by President Donald Trump.
President Trump predicted that the US could see 100,000 and 240,000 deaths from the virus. While talking to a news outlet, Gates said that the disruptions to everyday life are the key to keeping pandemic from worsening.
“This is a nightmare scenario because human-to-human transmittal respiratory viruses can grow exponentially”, he said.
Gates continues that if people had been going about their life, the curve would never bend until the majority of the people were infected and there were lots of deaths. He suggests that the response should be on a national level, not a local or state level. Bill Gates warned five years ago that the greatest threat to the world is a pandemic.
