Today’s hero: Customs officer succumbs to injuries after being attacked by smugglers

Deputy Collector Customs Quetta Dr. Abdul Quddus Sheikh succumbs to injuries following an attack by alleged smugglers. He was attacked at Gahi Khan Chowk when he was returning to his him home after seizing smuggled goods. He was receiving treatment in a hospital in the port city, where he bid a final farewell to this world.

He conducted a successful operation in Kolpur area of Quetta where he seized smuggled goods. On his way back to his home, unidentified men stopped his car at gunpoint, beat him up and left him unconscious.

Customs officials said that action against alleged attackers has been initiated following the registration of FIR as they challenged the writ of the state, as a local media source reports. The police have so far arrested three individuals in connection with the case.

After the attack, deputy commissioner of Islamabad shared that Dr Sheikh was in a critical condition. He informed that the customs official was in a coma with ruptured lungs and a broken jaw.

”Dr. Qudoos Shaikh, Deputy Commissioner Customs Quetta is in critical condition as he was severely beaten by a smuggler gang on Saryab Road. He is in a coma with ruptured lungs and a broken jaw. Prayers for his life and health. He seized a truck of smugglers who retaliated.”

He was shifted to a trauma center in Quetta and then flown to Karachi on a chartered plane, where he lost the battle of his life today.
