Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi, had requested The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani to support his move for granting Darren Sammy honorary citizenship of Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference recently with Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani and other franchise owners of PSL, Javed Afridi said that his request for granting Darren Sammy the honorary citizenship is almost on the President’s table. He then requested the chairman of the PCB to “pursue it a bit more and make a phone call, so that it would be accepted soon.”
Javed Afridi also recalled how Darren Sammy stepped forward and agreed to play the PSL final in Pakistan in 2017.
The former West Indian captain enjoys a great fan following in Pakistan. Back in 2017, when most of the international cricketers were hesitant to come and play in Pakistan, the West Indian was among the players who came and played in The PSL final.
However, now the president Arif Alvi has finally decided to confer Darren Sammy with the highest civilian award and honorary citizenship. He will be honoured at a ceremony on 23rd March.
