Delhi: Man in financial distress hires juvenile to murder him so his family can get insurance money
A preliminary investigation of the matter revealed that Bansal’s family members had filed a missing complaint.
In India, Gaurav Bansal, a 37-year-old grocery shop owner, hired a juvenile to kill him, so that his family could claim insurance money. On June 10, his lifeless body was found hanging from a tree near Kheri Baba Pul in the Ranhola area situated on the outskirts of Delhi.
The initial image of his corpse could qualify as suicide. However, according to The Deputy Commissioner of Police Outer A. Koan, Gaurav’s hands were tied around his back. This sight drove the police to register the case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
A preliminary investigation of the matter revealed that Bansal’s family members had filed a missing complaint. Based on intelligence, the events proceeded, and a suspect identified as Suraj was apprehended. During sustained interrogation, Suraj disclosed the surprising reality of Gaurav’s death:
I and two others – Manoj and Sumit – were roped in to kill Gaurav by a juvenile, who was in contact with the deceased.
Following the revelations, Manoj, Sumit, and the juvenile were also arrested. After questioning, the young man behind the crime disclosed that Gaurav Bansal contacted him on social media and told him that he was currently facing severe financial problems and wished death upon himself. The matter got serious when Gaurav offered money to the juvenile to kill him, as, upon his death, his family would receive his insurance payout.
While narrating the account, DCP Koan went on to discuss the settlement details:
The deal was settled at a sum of around 60,000 Rupees, after which, the juvenile roped in his friend Manoj, who later involved Suraj and Sumit to execute this alleged contract killing.
During further interrogation by DCP Koan, the accused people revealed they had received money for the act, so they hanged Bansal from a tree to kill him. On account of his death, his family would get the insurance money.
Further investigation of the case is underway.
