Bashir Ahmed Memon: A Symbol of Resistance
Bashir Memon was removed from the position of DIG Hyderabad after he didn’t succumb to pressure from then-president Asif Zardari.
According to a report published in The News, once former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asked him not to open a money-laundering investigation against an MQM MNA. He was told that it will make things difficult for the government to manage things in the national assembly.
“We have to run the House (National Assembly). Please help us (by not pursuing the case),” Shahid Khaqan Abbasi requested.
“Sir, running the House is your responsibility and the law-enforcement is mine,” Bashir Memon reportedly replied to the former Prime Minister.
After his resignation, the government appointed the head of the Panama JIT, Wajid Zia, as the new DG FIA.
