Did you know that PIA helped establish leading airlines Emirates by leasing two aircraft in 1985?

Emirates is the world’s largest international airline, flying to 158 destinations in 85 countries. The airline operates 269 aircraft and is the world’s largest operator of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 family of aircraft. But did you know that PIA helped establish its roots? Pakistan International Airlines offered crucial support to Emirates when it was being established in 1985. How?

Here’s what happened:

When Emirates was laying its roots in the aviation industry, it approached PIA and asked for support. To support the airline’s launch, PIA leased two aircraft to Emirates within the budget of $10 million and extended administrative support and engineering assistance. The two aircraft Emirates lent to PIA were:

  • Boeing 737-300
  • Airbus A300B4-200

Now Emirates is known as the biggest power player in the aviation industry. It works hard to earn the loyalty of its passengers and to win over new customers by continually investing in new products, services, and technology. However, it must be remembered that PIA played a huge role in its success by helping the airline step up during its humble beginnings.
