Dr. Sania exhibits government’s multi-sectoral welfare program “Ehsaas” before global community

On the sideline meetings of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr. Sania Nishtar highlighted the objectives and multi-lateral dynamics of the country’s Ehsaas Program – a program with the initiative to raise people out of poverty.
The theme of Ehsaas is said to revolve around turning the country into a welfare state by countering elite, and by promoting financial inclusion. The program is regarded as the government’s multi-sectoral collaboration to achieve poverty alleviation.
Dr. Nishtar showcased the Ehsaas Programme to create awareness among the leaders from around the world about the multi-sectoral flagship program of Pakistan’s Government. The 74th session of UNGA provided an engaging venue to the leaders and thinkers from across the world for discussion at various issues confronting the globe.
Dr. Sania briefed the President of Costa Rica and other ministers about the Ehsaas program. She explained how the program is utilizing both incomes as well as Multi-dimensional Poverty Index metrics for policy design.
Dr. Alkire who is the president of Costa Rica has done a Ph.D. in Poverty Metrics in Pakistan. Dr. Alkire, reportedly, to be invited by Ehsaas to sit with the Ehsaas Poverty Metrics Committee and would help with analysis of local drivers of poverty studies.
“Tackling malnutrition is embedded in the strategy of Ehsaas which for the first time is working across the government departments and across sectors to strengthen the structures already put in place by SUN in Pakistan and to develop new policies that augment those successes,” said SAPM while speaking to the other UN-appointed campaign leaders.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in which the later anticipated to contribute some $200 million in Ehsaas Programme. Besides financial support, the Gates Foundation would also provide technical assistance for poverty alleviation.

She also explained Ehsaas in a discussion panel with Bill Gates. During the discussion, she explained what exactly Ehsaas is all about. She also read Pakistan’s stance on the eradication of poverty in an event on environmental stewardship on tackling poverty. The event was organized by Malaysia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
