Dutch Ambassador Wouter Plomp and Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Mehboob Sultan met and discussed Pakistan’s potential in the agricultural, poultry, dairy, and crops sector. Both agreed on close cooperation and working in the sector.

“We have set an ambitious target of processing 30% of milk in the next 5 years, which currently is only 5%”, Federal Minister Mehboob Sultan said, explaining Pakistan’s potential and targets in the sector.

Dutch ambassador said that both Pakistan and the Netherlands have a mutual interest in the field. Dairy companies have already been collaborating with Pakistan in the past and for the future, there exists a great potential as well. Both countries should work on exploring new techniques, exchange of technology and building new potential.

Wouter Plomp further said that as many as nine Dutch companies are interested in investing in Pakistan’s poultry and dairy sector.

Mehboob said that a ‘Business to Business’ liaison between the exporters and importers of agro-commodities is an important and significant need. It will significantly impact and enhance bilateral trade between the Netherlands and Pakistan, he added.

Pakistan is currently importing Seed Potatoes from Holland, but the import is significantly less than the demand. Pakistan had an exceptionally large potato crop last year and it also wishes to collaborate in the field for value addition as well.

“We would welcome Dutch companies to capture the potential market”, he added.

Dutch Ambassador further told that the Dutch Agriculture Mission is planning to organize the Dutch Agriculture Mission, a seminar in November 2019. It will help in connecting potential investors and experts.
