The Turkish series Diriliş: Ertuğrul has been doing the rounds in Pakistan ever since its release. From its educational, yet entertaining storyline to everything else, it is a captivating show that has managed to gather a big fanbase in the country.
One of the most famous figures from the serial is the lead character Ertuğrul Gazi, who is played by Engin Altan Düzyatan.
In a recent event, Engin Altan Duzyatan met three terminally ill Pakistani children via a video link. The event was arranged by Make-A-Wish Foundation in Karachi that was attended by the Turkish Consul General Tolga Ucak and a few prominent Pakistani actors. The foundation grants one wish for children who suffer from terminal illnesses.
Three of their children, Sidra Khan, Fizza Khuda Baksh, and Sohail Umer, wanted to meet Altan.
“I am touched by the love and affection from Pakistan and especially from Make-A-Wish children,” the Turkish actor said while speaking with to the children. He expressed his wish to visit Pakistan soon and to meet his “Pakistani brothers and sisters.”
“I saw your drama on PTV, which is lovely and telling us the Islamic history and how our heroes fought for Islam,” Umer told the actor.
Khuda Baksh said, “I wished to speak and meet you, and today my dream was fulfilled by Make-A-Wish.” Altan promised the children to visit Pakistan soon.
The wish children wore traditional Turkish outfits from the historical play and presented a sword as a gift to the Turkish star, as per the theme of his super-hit drama series. The gift was received by the Turkish consul general on behalf of the actor.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishtiaq Baig, the organizer and founder of Make-A-Wish Pakistan, said the people of Pakistan consider Engin Altan as their hero. “Your kind gesture of meeting these children is commendable, which shows that you are not only a great actor but also a great human being,” he said.
Baig further added that Altan is so popular in Pakistan that even if he contested election here, he would have surely won.
Make-A-Wish volunteers also presented the theme song of Ertugrul Ghazi on the occasion.
The event was attended by Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani and Pakistani artists including Humayun Saeed, Aftab Imam, Ayesha Omar, Zeba Bakhtiar, Nadeem Baig and Make-A-Wish trustees: Justice (retd) Ashraf Jahan, Najia Ashraf, Dr. Ikhtiar Baig, Dr. Farhan Essa and families of Make-A-Wish children and volunteers.
