FBR issued tax notices to 134, 848 high net-worth individuals across the country

The total number of return fillers have been increased from previous years, making an increase of 69.1pc.

Federal institution the Federal Board of Revenue has served tax notices to 134,848 high net-worth individuals. These notices were issued all across Pakistan to prevail these people to e-file income tax returns for 2019.

Broadening of Tax Base (BTB) was created at the regional tax offices of Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi. Tax notices were sent by these zones to unregistered people.

The main purpose of these zones is to bring all unregistered citizens into the tax net.

Tax Amnesty

PTI’s government has been so successful so far, when it comes to introducing schemes like tax amnesty. During the first year of this current government, 783,039 new taxpayers have been added.

The highest number of notices are issued in Lahore, where RTO Lahore served notices to 37, 083 to unregistered individuals.

Moreover, Rawalpindi is the second highest city with notices being issued by RTO are 21, 248. While in Islamabad only 4600 notices have been issued which is far below its actual potential.

Whereas, 15, 800 and 15, 560 notices have been issued to Peshawar and Sargodha respectively. This is the highest number when it is considered the magnitude of RTO.

“The respective RTOs are working to identify how many of them get registered in the wake of notices,” says the official.

The total number of return fillers have been increased from previous years, making an increase of 69.1pc. The money obtained last year was 2.561 million against 1.514m over the previous year.
