FIA arrests ‘digital fuel thief’ for stealing petrol by using a chip and remote control
According to news sources, the CCW took strict action against the culprit after a private Oil Marketing Company (OMC).
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a ‘digital fuel thief’ in Lahore. The Cyber Crime Wing or CCW of the FIA has arrested a suspect that was involved in a ‘digital petrol theft’ in the city of Lahore, the crime is definitely the first of its kind.
According to news sources, the CCW took strict action against the culprit after a private Oil Marketing Company (OMC). The thief goes by the name Amjad Khan, and he carried out his crime by attaching a small chip to a petrol dispensing machine. By using this chip, Amjad then controlled the machine and stole around 200 to 300 milliliters of petrol with each liter. The report further detailed that the chip would automatically switch on when petrol was being poured. Through the chip and remote control, the accused would take over the petrol dispenser, and he then stole petrol through this technology.
FIA took the culprit into its custody and confiscated his smartphone, the remote control, and the tampering chip he used to hijack the machines. The report has not gone into detail about what the punishment may be for the criminal, but the thief will probably face jail time. Likewise, Amjad may also have to pay a heavy fine for stealing petrol.
Increase in the price of petrol
The price hike is an ongoing issue for Pakistanis, along with the current financial situation of the nation. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has also recently announced another increase of Rs35 in petrol and diesel prices. The minister unveiled that the prices will go into effect immediately.
He also recalled that in the last four months, petrol prices have not seen an increase, but the prices of diesel and kerosene oil decreased. Although international prices have increased and the rupee has devalued, the government has increased the minimum price of these products.
