No place for women? Negligence by FIA Cybercrime Wing steers girl to suicide
The authorities instantly put Ali Niazi behind bars, but that did not stop Ali's friends from continuing to harass Rimsha.
On the 22nd of July 2020, a young woman, Rimsha, submitted a sexual harassment request to the FIA. In the complaint, she named her culprit as Ali Niazi.
The FIA’s Cyber Crime wing registered the complaint and shortly, the culprit, Ali Niazi, was identified and arrested.
The authorities instantly put Ali Niazi behind bars, but that did not stop Ali’s friends from continuing to harass Rimsha.
Tired of the molestation, Rimsha repetitively reached out to her case’s lead investigation officer and Director of the Cyber Crime wing, Abdul Rab. The girl registered several complaints regarding Ali Niazi’s friends, but the Cyber Crime wing did not respond to any of Rimsha’s numerous appeals.
Disappointed with the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing, young Rimsha saw no hope and resorted to suicide. Approximately two months after registering the first complaint, Rimsha took her life because she could not bear the continuous sexual harassment.
Following this incident, The Director FIA submitted an initial report to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Model Town, Dost Muhammad.
