Four hit Pakistani dramas that were actually based on “TRUE stories”

The Pakistani drama industry is famous for taking inspiration from true stories; however, not all these dramas unveil that their storyline is based on reality. The writers share that this is done because not all happenings in the television series are inspired by actual events; only the main theme of the story is linked to reality, while the rest is dramatized to garner public engagement.

Dunk

Storyline: The drama serial Dunk is based on a false harassment allegation that ruined the lives of so many people involved. The tragic incident occurred in Lahore when a lecturer from MAO College took his own life even though he was cleared of the harassment allegations against him. He left a suicide note behind in which he stated that he has left his case to Allah. While the TV serial garnered major criticism for addressing a bold story, it proved to be a massive hit in Pakistan.

Sadqay Tumhare

Storyline: In the drama Sadqay Tumhare, writer Khalil-ur-Rehman penned down his own tragic love story. The storyline of the drama talks about the intense, but forbidden love of Shano and Khalil. The intriguing developments in the plot add great charm to the characters and dialogues, making the drama another extreme piece of work by the famous writer. Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar even received an award for the show.

Pyare Afzal

Storyline: The story is based on the life of Khalil-ur-Rehman’s friend. Speaking about the incident, the writer said:

I once had a college friend who used to write love letters to himself but told his friends that a girl sends me these letters. I caught him red-handed once.

Many people suggested that Khalil-ur-Rehman should write a script based on this incident, but he didn’t think much into it as it was just a short incident. However, upon the insistence of his friends, the writer penned down the script which went on to become a massive hit drama.

Mubarak Ho Beti Hui Hei

Storyline: The drama’s first half is entirely based on the true story of Faiza Iftikhar’s own mother. The writer wrote the drama as a tribute to her inspirational mother who fought against all odds to raise her daughters to be empowered and enlightened. The drama addresses taboo issues like the dislike of baby girls and the liking of baby boy’s birth. It features some of the strongest female leads ever seen in a Pakistani drama.
