France urges Arab countries to stop boycott of French products

Earlier, several Arab trade groups announced their boycott of French products in response to statements against Islam and over the republication of caricatures insulting Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

France, on Sunday, pressed Middle Eastern countries to stop retail companies from boycotting French products.

The French foreign affairs ministry said in a statement that in recent days there had been calls to boycott French products, particularly food products, in several Middle Eastern states as well as calls for protests against France, over the publication of satirical cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

“These calls for boycotts are groundless and should stop immediately, as well as all attacks against our nation, which are being pushed by a radical minority,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Macron said in a tweet: “We will not give in, ever” to ‘Islamic’ radicals. “We do not accept hate speech and safeguard reasonable debate,” the French leader added.
