Front-man of Hamza Shahbaz and Salman Shahbaz confesses money laundering of Rs600m

The alleged frontman of Hamza Shahbaz and his brother confessed to having laundered 600 million rupees for the two brothers, Dawn reported. “I have been working for the two brothers since they started looking after their family’s business in 2005,” admitted Mushtaq Cheeni in his confessional statement before the judicial magistrate.

The judicial magistrate recorded the statement of the suspected individual after his lawyer and the NAB team left the courtroom. The suspect admitted that he was the wholesale dealer for the Ramzan Sugar Mills. He also confessed that Hamza and Shahbaz used to receive the money in the form of remittances from the bank accounts of his company Mushtaq and Co.

All he had to do was the issuance of cheques in the name of Hamza Shahbaz. NAB prosecutor also said that the bureau would have no objection if the court sends the suspect to prison for judicial investigations. Cheeni has now been sent to jail on judicial remand.

However, Hamza Shahbaz is already in NAB custody in another case while his brother Salman Shahbaz is out of the country. The NAB alleged that Hamza Shahbaz has maintained various accounts in different banks with the credit turnover of around 500million rupees.

Hamza Shahbaz along with his brother is accused of embezzling millions of rupees from public funds. The money, according to NAB, was released by the then chief minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, who is also a suspect in the same case. Hamza Shahbaz is also accused of having assets beyond means. Hamza Shahbaz is currently the leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly.
