All you need to know about gas, oil reserves found in Kohat, KPK

The pre-commerciality working interest of POL is 25%.

Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), the country’s leading gas and oil & exploration and production company, has discovered oil and gas reserves in the Kohat region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it was learned on Tuesday.

“As per the information received from MOL, the Hungarian oil and gas company’s operator of TAL Block, hydrocarbons have been encountered in exploratory well Mamikhel South-01, which has been drilled and is currently under testing phase,” informed POL, in its filing to the bourse.

Hence, according to the Drill Stem Test (DST) conducted at the well to test the Lockhart and Hangu formations, the well has tested 3,240 barrels per day of condensate, 16.12 MMscf per day of gas and 48 barrels per day of water.

The pre-commerciality working interest of POL is 25%.

In March, POL tested hydrocarbons from its Development Well Pindori-10, located in district Rawalpindi, Punjab. Meanwhile, in January, the OGDCL announced the discovery of condensate and gas at an exploratory well in Ranipur Block, in Sindh. The well has tested six barrels per day of condensate and 1.85 million cubic feet per day of gas.

MOL has a proven track record of effectively operating in Pakistan’s upstream sector for 21 years and holds equity stakes in four blocks in the country. MOL has made 13 oil, gas and condensate discoveries in Pakistan since 2000, discovering over 400 million BOE hydrocarbon reserves.

As the operating shareholder, MOL is responsible for 89 million BOEPD gross production (as of Q1 2020) in the TAL block, one of the most significant hydrocarbon producing blocks in the country, where MOL has 8.4% share.

Commenting on the achievement, MOL Group Executive Vice President (Exploration & Production) Dr.  Berislav Gašo said, “I’m joyed to announce that we have made another discovery in Pakistan. This new discovery has de-risked an exploration play in a deeper reservoir in the TAL Block, leading to new upside opportunities. We are thankful to our joint venture partners as well as the government for their continued support.”
