Gaza has been bombed every night since UAE-Israel normalisation

While Israel and its Arab 'friends' have been busy normalizing their relations with the state, Tel Aviv has made the daily bombing of Gazans the new normal in the Middle East.

While the UAE made peace with Israel last week, Gazans in Palestine have been bombed every day for the last thirteen days.

The world was shocked by the announcement of a controversial ‘peace’ agreement between the UAE and Israel a week ago as the residents of Gaza woke up to another day with bombs coming from Israel.

Tuesday night marked the thirteenth consecutive day of Israeli bombing over Gaza. Two million Palestinians live there with limited food, electricity, and water supplies for years, as no Arab nation has stepped up to condemn Tel Aviv’s campaign.

“For the past 13 days, Israel has bombed Gaza every night, terrorizing the population. The only surviving electricity power plant has run out of fuel, plunging the tiny strip into black darkness and impacting on all aspects of normal life,” said Kamel Hawwash, a British-Palestinian commentator and professor, who is the Vice-Chair of the British Palestinian Policy Council (BPPC).

“The recent agreement to normalize relations between the UAE and Israel has not brought peace to Gaza but rather made an already terrible existence worse,” Hawwash told TRT World.

While Israel does not occupy the Gaza Strip, it has been under an intense Israeli siege since 2007.

The bombing has not resulted in any deaths so far, but a dozen injuries have been reported. Agricultural areas, civilian infrastructure, and even schools have been targeted during Israeli airstrikes.

A 2012 UN report projected that Gaza would become “unlivable” by 2020 if current trends continued. In 2020, when the deadly coronavirus hit Palestine, which has inadequate medical equipment and staff to fight with the global pandemic, the living standards of Gazans have dipped even lower.

But under PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel, who has gone through three inconclusive elections in the last 12 months, has not stopped pounding Gaza.

“On top of the hardships of a 14-year-old siege and three major wars, Israel chooses to lash out against it regularly, including for political reasons,” said Hawwash.

Both Israelis and their new Arab ‘allies’ have ignored the Palestinian plight as they continued to celebrate the new peace deal that offers nothing to the Palestinians.
