Gaza: The wife of a Palestinian prisoner has given birth to a baby boy after becoming pregnant through smuggled sperm.
The boy has been named Mujahid on his father’s wish.
Mujahid has three elder siblings; however, he is the first to be conceived in this manner after his 35-year-old father was arrested.
Israeli occupation forces detained the child’s father, Al-Qidra, in July 2014 during Israel’s deadly assault on the besieged Gaza Strip. He was later sentenced to 11 years in jail.
Qidra’s sister told a source, “There were two previous attempts to smuggle my brother’s sperm, but those failed; however, the third attempt succeeded.”
She added, “We are happy with the arrival of the newborn, but our happiness is incomplete as my brother is still in jail. I wish my brother were here with us on this special occasion.”
According to institutions specialized in prisoners’ affairs, Mujahid is the 96th child to be born using smuggled sperm while their fathers have been detained.
