General Bajwa issues fresh instructions to army officials following PTI’s allegations
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has issued fresh instructions to top army officers, including those from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
The new directions have been issued following allegations from the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). According to a report published in The News, top military officials have been instructed by COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa to stay away from politics and politicians.
It is pertinent to mention that these instructions have been given after PTI alleged that certain ISI officials are working to cause them damage in the upcoming by-elections in Punjab. Few days ago, PTI leader and former health minister Punjab Dr Yasmin Rashid had named ISI sector commander and accused him of being involved in political engineering.
Furthermore, former PM Imran Khan had also stated that his candidates are receiving phone calls from unknown numbers. He added that PTI leaders and supporters are being pressurised.
Army’s response to “baseless” allegations:
According to the news report, defence sources have expressed their disappointment over the accusations by the PTI leaders. They added that the sector commander, who was being named by Dr. Yasmin, has been in Islamabad in connection with some of his professional work for the last two weeks.
Furthermore, the sources also urged PTI to share evidence instead of levelling baseless allegations. They reiterated that if there is even a little evidence supporting PTI claims, strict action would be taken against those responsible.
