Geo called out over racial profiling of Pashtuns in its new drama [Video]
Social media users are calling out Geo TV over the racial profiling of Pashtun community in its new drama serial, Meray Humnasheen.
The lead cast of the drama serial includes Ahsan Khan, Hiba Bukhari, Shehzad Sheikh, Syed Jibran, Meher Bano and others. Meray Humnasheen has been under criticism on social media over its portrayal of Pashtuns as violent people.
The opening scene of the new drama on Geo TV shows gun carrying men, who are attacked by their rivals.
Furthermore, Ahsan Khan’s character in the drama is a hot-headed and backward man, who is against his cousin’s – character played by Hiba Bukhari – pursuing higher studies.
Many social media users expressed their anger over the negative portrayal of Pashtuns in the drama. A netizen shared the teaser of the drama serial and asked when will the racial profiling of Pashtuns in Pakistani dramas stop?
So, there is an upcoming drama on Geo starring Ihsan Khan, he plays the role of a Pathan. Again, the same old racial profiling of Pashtuns in a Pakistani drama, PTM cap, gun carrying youngster threatening to kill a girl. When will this stop? pic.twitter.com/QEj87UEuov

Reacting to a tweet about Meray Humnasheen, journalist Mubashir Zaidi wrote that Pakistani media has always shown Pashtuns and Balochs negatively.
پاکستانی میڈیا نے ہمیشہ پشتونوں اور بلوچوں کو منفی انداز میں ہی دکھایا ہے https://t.co/SyrU6ShImT

Mainstream media has consistently portrayed #Pashtuns and #Balochs as treacherous and savage. They are being normalized as rebellious. https://t.co/2WAG7pImsi

Its no the first time that a Pakistan drama has been called out for the racial profiling of Pashtuns. Not so long ago, hit sitcom Bulbulay was also slammed for the same. Later, Nabeel Zafar apologised following the backlash on social media.
I’m here on this platform to apologise to any one who has been hurt by any thing we have said or done in Bulbulay!!!
our intentions are to make people happy not to discriminate or hurt any one
We are extremely sorry . pic.twitter.com/LIMe6AoZuy— Nabeel Zafar (@nabeelzafar2008) July 23, 2020
