A wave of fear, panic and extremism grips Ghotki as armed miscreants enter Hindu temples and start vandalizing it. The incident happens a few days after videos of Muslims and Hindus unitedly commemorating Muharram in Sindh were seen all across social media.
According to the available reports and words from Sindh’s minority activists, a student accused his principal, Notan Das of blasphemy in Ghotki. Following the accusation, the enraged mob attacked the school and vandalized it. However, not only the school but the wrath also found its way to the local Hindus as temples and properties were attacked as well.
According to prominent Hindu activist Kapil Dev, Notan Das has been heading the school for 30 years. The recent accusation against him is purposeful and people behind it have vested interests to disrupt the ambiance of the city, where people belonging to both religions have coexisted peacefully for ages.
”Hindus living in Ghotki are under siege as miscreants are vandalizing properties of Hindus & temples after a teacher Notan Das was accused of blasphemy. Mr. Das has been teaching since 30 years, but some vested interests are distorting peace & interfaith harmony in Sindh,” Kapil wrote.

”Another sad; horrifying day, as Mirpur of Ghotki seriously troubled after a private school owner Nautan Kumar is blamed and booked in the name of blasphemy. Who’s flaming this fire in Sindh where centuries-old interfaith harmony has remained the savior of its sons + daughters?”, another Twitter user, Sikandar Ali Hullio, wrote.
The social media community condemns the attack, saying it will fuel the extremist fire more aggressively in Pakistan.

#Ghotki is under the siege of mullah-brigade. A Hindu professor is being accused of blasphemy. Hindus r confined to their homes. Political leadership at Ghotki is out of reach. Chairman @BBhuttoZardari needs to gv instructions to @SardarMBuxMahar & other leaders. @khalidvonsaleem

When we talk about rights of Muslims being demolished in India, do we even know how holy places & properties of minorities in Pakistan are being attacked?
Sadly, those Hindus who dedicated their religious days to Kashmir, are not safe in their homes & temples today 😟#Ghotki

This is beyond demeaning. You can’t vandalise a holy temple like this. Pakistan really needs to revise its blasphemy laws. This is atrocious and unacceptable. I stand up with our #Hindu community against what happened in #Ghotki
